Last winter I rebuilt my front suspension and steering, basically everything except the power steering pump. Since then, the steering has been fairly heavy. The power assist is working to some degree, and I have balanced the valve correctly. The car is still fun to drive, but requires a bit too much effort to steer, and doesn't return to center without help. On two occasions, I've felt the power assist briefly return to "normal" during a turn, followed by an audible clunk, then back to the heavy steering.
Could I have over-tightened the ball-stud assembly nut? I used a grinder lock nut wrench
and tightened it pretty good. Any other ideas? Much appreciated,
Upgraded to a Borgeson box which eliminates all the stock power steering components. No more leaking valves.Car steers great and has good feedback as well.Well worth the cost for sure.Got tired of replacing parts[IMG][/IMG]

...Good luck....
Perhaps you overtightened it. In any event, there is some problem with the repair/reassembly of the control valve as it is the most probable cause for your problems.
Did you follow the instructional guide from Jim Shea in the CF Archives? If not, you should obtain a copy of his repair instructions for the P/S control valve and follow them to correct the problem.
