Default orange jumper wire

on my 68 the orange wire thats near the wiper motor, with the thick black rubber ends on it.the orange wire is about 5 inches long.its a jumper from the ammeter to horn relay,,i believe. well mine is intact, but has maybe 1 or 2 strands of its wire broke.wondering if they will affect anything. besides the say,one broken wire, the rest of them seem pretty strong,,i can tug on either end,and there not breaking.would you guys leave it,or replace it.the wire does seem pretty whimpy, but i suppose its meant to be that way. also ive had the car just shut down on me in hot weather, might that wire have anything to do with this. thanks gents,

That orange wire is a fusible link. And, if there are broken wires in it (uh, how do you know there are broken wires inside the insulation???), it will 'fry' sooner than it normally would. But, as long as it is working OK, just put some non-flammable tape or insulation around the open wiring and keep on chuggin'.

7t1,how you doin,i looked at the ends of the-wire- one day,and thought they might be weak,a little soft on the ends.so i lightly exposed each end,and saw one strand was broke on each end.thats how i know their was a small issue? which made me think, could this lead to some kind of ignition problem,or anything else.from searching fusablie links problems, one person mentioned that he thought a slightly frayed link caused a stall out problem,,not sure? do you think,if orange wire is comprimised, that it would cause an issue, after wires got warmed up,or hot.im just trying to avoid any possible ignition failure from the orange wire with one strand broken.......its probably not a big deal, ill flameproof the wire, and move on.-still like when you-7t1-chimes in.tom in cleveland.

A fuse link is there [primarily] to protect the harness wiring, and prevent a fire, in case there is a major short in the system. A short like that is almost always caused by an internal failure of an electrical device OR by the inadvertent shorting (crossing) of wires by the owner or by a mechanic working on the car. So, as long as it is working OK now...and all the electrical systems work OK...it's unlikely that the fuse link will fail under other circumstances.
