Default Which Intake

Just finishished assembling my new 4 bolt 30 over small block with vortec heads modified for high lift. Now I have a delemia which intake the Ebrock performer Vortec or the Weiand 8121. I had a performer on the orig 82 engine with a carb with very little clearance between a 2" air cleaner and the hood. I clearanced the elongated hole in the orig 82 hood to fit a 10" round air cleaner.

Does anybody have other possibilites other than changing the hood?

RPM Air Gap and change the hood. Best thing I ever did.

I will only throw this out there because someone did it to me.

EFI

The FAST throttle body is a full inch shorter than a carb. I'm now running a Edlebrock RPM Air Gap (plumb for injectors, please do not ask why), FAST Throttle body,......and the blow through carb hat, all under the stock hood.

I have about 3/4" clearance between the top of the carb hat and the underside of the hood.

Things that make you go huh?

You don't want too small an air filter or it will cost you horspower. You should be using a 14 in dia, 3 inch tall element. I have a 2 inch drop base air filter, 14 in dia. and a 3 inch element under the stock hood on my 77. I have Vortec heads and an RPM air gap manifold. I am also using a 3/4 inch tall adapter under my carb (Qjet). It all fits, using a flat nut instead of a wingnut on top of the air cleaner - its that close.

The SINGLE thing that keeps me from upgrading to vortec heads is that the (available) intake will NOT allow me to retain my STOCK ram air system, my STOCK q-jet AND MY STOCK '80 L48 HOOD.

Too bad somebody (Edelbrock) has not resolved that with the proper height intake manifold... perhaps that is asking too much OR it is not possible to engineer. Regardless, I will NOT likely go beyond a Gen 1 engine configuration (55-86) any time soon in my C3.

I spent some time in the garage tonight and measured the original performer intake. I placed a straight edge across the carb flange at the front of the intake I measure 3-5/8
and at the rear I get 4-1/4" I think I going to go with the Weiand 8121 with the new motor. Has anybody tried this intake yet?
