I believe you need to be concerned with centering the turn signal return mechanism in the column so that keeps you from just sliping the column shaft in the rag joint. I would center from the column down adjusting the steering arm on the box then the tie rods to center.
I bet someone else has more experience in this, but those are my thoughts.
I have just finished with my Hydroboost/Holden MC conversion to my '74 which had a Borgeson (only 1 "n" in Borgeson) fitted in 2010. The car now steers and stops GREAT!!!! You will LOVE it when you get to drive it. I don't seem to remember any spline misalignment problems when I fitted the Borgeson box 18 months ago, maybe I was lucky.
You may have to remove the rag joint from the steering shaft and move it a few splines before re-fitting. There's 48 splines, so one eighth of a turn would be six splines. You might get lucky doing this.
Actually the solution was that the Borgenson rag joint that goes on the steering shaft does not align with the set screw aligning with the shaft flat spot.
Got it all in, aligned and buttoned up. Just waiting for the battery charger to get me some juice - at least that's what I'm hoping is the reason for no juice.
Found that there is now much less access space with the larger steering box and the hydroboost hoses.
I would also like to know if it will fit a big block car with headers?
David,
Overall, the Hydroboost is smaller in diameter than the factory vacuum booster, and will clear just about any tall big block rocker covers. Ditto with the Borgeson box. With the HB, you may have to twist the unit anticlockwise to get the hoses away from the rag joint, but this is not a major undertaking.
