Default How close is too close?

Got new tires and wheels recently.

The rears are 285/40s and they are rubbing the ebrake which i will be relocating.

The tires seem to be really close to the frame. I can slide my fingers between the tire and the frame just barely.
Is this too close?

I could use a spacer to bring it away but my tire sits perfectly flush with the outside fender well now and looks good.

Anyone had this issue before?

You just described the way mine set, as far as the relationship to the frame. Just keep an eye on it for the first few times out and check for rubbing issues. I have had mine rub the frame on hard dips were the car bottoms out. If you ran a small spacer, what ever size will buy you that much more clearances. The fitment of the 285 tires vary from car to car, there are some cars that can't run them at all with out them sticking out past the fender lip.

These are photo's of the rear wheels just after I installed the new wheels and tires. Shown for the fender well lip clearance.

You must move the E brake bracket to the top of the trailing arm.

Are you guys running a shortened leaf spring? I am in the process of installing new wheels and the leaf spring is really close to the wheel/tire. Do you have any pics?

That depends. If the only way that gap can get any tighter is by sidewall deflection and not suspension travel there should be nothing to be concerned about because the only significant sidewall movement should be at the contact patch (experts please chime in here if I'm wrong). When fitting wider than stock tires the debate is usually between a minimum of a 1/2" to 1" of clearence. From what you're describing you should be good.
