Bought a new mallory high performance distributor for my 78 L82 vette original 350 engine with mild cam ,and headers. Removed stock distributor and installed new one without any problems.Set timing to 12 degrees with vacuum advance disconnected. Test drove car and now car surges at cruise speed . Set adjustable vacuum can to minimum (closed) and car still surges at cruise speed.Disconnected / plugged vacuum hose and surging stopped engine became smooth again . I want to run car with vacuum advance hoooked up . Has any one had this problem or know what is problem? THANKS
You have too much vacuum advance at cruise. Does the adjustment change the amount of advance or the vacuum point at which you achieve full vacuum advance?

Yes the adjustment on vacuum can does change the degrees advanced but at lowest adjustment setting which is around 19 degress advance I can't seem to get any lower. Maybe I need another vacuum can.
Had a similar problem when I installed a recurve kit.Had to set the limiter cam on the vacuum advance rod for less movement. Then reset the timing on the dizzy.Check this link...http://www.summitracing.com/parts/CRN-99619-1/ May need this part....[IMG][/IMG]
