can any on tell me where this dome light should go on my 79 and why its hanging out with the back tail lights?i have looked every where in the back of the car,and theres no where it can go
That's either your license plate light or spare tire light.
it comes on when i open the door and goes out when i close it,and the wiring diagram i got from a member here says the orange wire and white wires are a dome light, the tag light is the one hanging with it
There should be a bracket over the spare tire somewhere to mount it, it uses the same lens as the license plate light. How could it possibly be a "dome" light when it's behind the gas tank?
If your wiring diagram doesn't show the spare tire light, you need a better wiring diagram.

here is the diag. i have. the dome light is listed in the lower right 1/4 of page 2 with the tail light wiring. so if it is the spare tire light is it correct to come on when the door opens and off when it closes with the interior light?this is my first vette.i'm used to rebuilding camaros and chevelles.
You are missing this lens for the bulb. I believe it screws to the bottom/ center of the rear bumper to provide light for removing the spare tire while changing a flat.
