Default temp sensor help plz

So Im finishing up my first motor rebuild. And Ive ran into yet another snag. The temp sensor that goes into the stock head is too big to fit into the new Dart heads. So my question is what brand or what do I look for when buying a new one?

Thanks

Have you installed the head yet? Last time I dealt with this, I just took it to a machine shop and had them drill and tap the hole for $25.

Try contacting Willcox (CF vendor). They may have some advice for you...and may even have the necessary sensor.

I believe Chevy had different size senders. Take yours to a parts store and see what they come up with. I vaguely remember running into this with my '67. If you've got stock heads, there's a stock sender available of the proper size.

Oops, I misread your thread. I still believe there are more than one size that fits Chevy heads. If you can't find one, call the vendor/manufacturer.

The above suggestions are good, or you can also relocate the sensor to the intake manifold and plug the head.

It does fit in one of the holes up there. that wont affect its readings?

I moved mine up to the intake when I put my 400 in. No ill affect with moving it. Was the easiest solution for me.

If you don't have a hole in the intake that will take it, then take the old sender to a machine shop...( do not get a new one if it works).

There is enough meat on the sender that you can turn it down and then tap it to 3/8 npt. Assuming your hole is 3/8.

If you can't find someone locally, the let me know... I can do it.

thanks! But Im not putting heat back in the car so it fits in that hole right under the thermostat housing. Which is really nice cause you wont see it.
