My 79 has a TH350 trans. It did not down shift or shift correctly, the shift points were too soon. I replaced the broken detent cable and modulator. The shift points are fine, but still no down shift. The detent cable is adjusted correctly. Could I have a problem in the valve body?
Not sure on the mileage or shift kit. It doesn't shift like it has a kit in it. My son just bought it. The speedo says 59K, but I don't think thats correct.
Did the transmission shift correctly before the shift kit was installed? Did you install the shift kit or did a shop install the kit? The reason I am asking is to establish if you had a problem before the kit was installed or was it induced when the kit was installed. It has been many years since I installed any kind of a shift kit but usually it requires the valve body removal and there are check ***** that must go into certain passages for everything to work properly and sometimes a different spring in the body.
still sounds to me its a detent problem pull the pan have some one press the gas down see if the cable hooks to a small rod it hooks to a plunger and a valve on the valve body see if the valve goes fully in if not adjust the cable till it does then road test it
it should shift to 2nd light throttle at 10-18 mph as soon as it does floor it should up shift about 4800-5500 rpm a th350 will not kick in to 1st between 28-38 mph and wil go to 3rd about 60-85 depending on rear gear ratio should have a 3-2 kick down under 60mph
