While that would be cool, it's not a fair comparison. The Z-06 is an incredible car, off the showroom floor. What you'd have to do to a C-3 to make it competitive...And then the Z-06 driver would counter "well if I put that much into my car, imagine how fast it would be. And the pissing match would begin.
"C3"..... that covers a lot of ground!! I also figure you are talking about a 1/4 mile. I would like to see the heavily modified (because nothing stock would be remotely close) C3 that can match the ZO6 times around a curvy track! The 1/4 mile part is really pretty simple. Most any C3 with a crate ZZ502 or equivalent dropped into it will be close to a ZO6 in the 1/4. You will need to be in the low 12s, and high 11s to win. Clink is just about there!! :) MJ
An L-88 would beat the Z06 in the quarter (but not on stock tires). The only C3's that could hang on a road course would be ones like Redvetracr's or other race prepped cars, IMO. And when you start talking about street driveability and performance together....the Z06 is head and shoulders above the C3. It's just progress. It's leaps and bounds ahead of the C3...and it should be.....it's almost 20 years newer. It's a nice Vette!

High 11's to low 12's is what I am planning to run... However - actual results may vary....
Two weeks ago when I ran in the high 11's there was a great guy in a 2002 Z06 and the best he could do was 12.4's. He was on drag radials. My high 11's would beat all Stock Z06's.
Here is the interesting part. My car is built for auto crossing and road work also. I took the Evolution Autocross school last spring. This is a great school but it also teaches you how much you have to learn. I was running mid to high 30's seconds on the course and really driving the wheels off the Silver Beast and the instructor gets in the car and run's 2 sec faster then me. He has never been in my car before. He really loved the HP.
The interesting thing is that there was also a Z06 in the class and the instructor was faster in my 1969 beast then in the new Z06 by about 1 sec. I could not believe it but it was true. I was running Hoosier tires and the Z06 was running some auto-x tire.
This was really fun to see the old take on the new.
I plan on taking one on at the track soon, I am waiting for them to work some kinks out with their brakes. We have a really slippery track and I think I will be able to launch and he wont, that will be the only way I will be able to win. He has run a best of 13.1 which hopefully he will not do again, it will be fun regardless!

Well, it weren't a Z06, but I bagged a few C5s a couple of years ago at Carolina Motorsports Park, not to mention a C4 and pretty much everyone else. I was running BFG R1 tires and was catching the C5s in both the straights and corners. Tom Melton (also on this forum from time to time) was there with his '82 CE as well. It was a Car Guys performance driving school and I was in the beginner class. http://www.cmpracetrack.com/track.htm
Pretty much the only cars that caught me that weekend were driven by instructors, one in a highly modified full-on race car and the other (Tom's instructor) in a Camaro 1LE, also running R1s. He claimed to have a hard time catching me to get this pic... Me about to go around a fast turn before the back straight. Photo courtesy Tom. :)
Here are some others (thanks for taking these, Tom)...
Well, I guess you can throw logic out the window. The 1+ inch wider tire, 3 inch taller rim, and 2 inch bigger brakes do nothing for the new Vette. The C5R guys might as well go back and pick up the earlier Vettes to race with.
I can't get one to line up next to me at the 1/8 mile track I race at. They look at my car and my motor and say NO!! A ZO6 on spray would be a tough race. I'f he could drive it.:)
I have both. "Sharky" is my '72 coupe (see sig) and "Torchy" is my '02 Z06. They share the garage, and of course their namesake. The '72 has significant mods and runs like a scalded dog. However, the Z06 will wipe the floor with the '72 anyday, any race. Chevy has outdone themselves with this car. But that too is the difference. The Z06 is a car, the Stingray is a sexy machine that grabs your attention and stirs the soul of anyone around. I get more looks and "thumbs up" with the Stingray than the Z anyday. Push come to shove, I'll take the 'Ray. Nice not having to choose though!
