I ran the car about a week ago and it ran fine. I have been adding new front and rear bumper to the car and have been pushing in and out of the garage. Today I rebuilt the headlight assemblys and added new vacumn lines.
Well I went to start the car and it wouldn't start. It would crank but not start. I opened the choke and it appeared to not be getting gas. I poured a little down the carb and it still didn't start.
I checked for spark, no spark. I have power at the pink wire into the distributor. I haven't worked on an HEI in 30 years. What to check for and or replace. And how to check.
The car is an 80.
Well, the most likely cause is a bad ignition module (inside the distributor cap) or defective wiring [in cap or to the cap]; secondary cause is probably bad coil [top of dist cap] or connections to it.
I may as well just get another distributor. Between the time checking and finding the problem then buying the parts it would be cheaper to get another new one.

True they are pretty cheap now. If its just a rotor it will only cost a couple bucks. Just turn it upside down and look for a burn spot in the center.
For the pickup wires just give them a little tug and see if one pulls out.

Gound it and attach your test light to the "tach" terminal next to the pink power wire at the cap and crank the engine, if the test light flickers, the module is good.
I went and priced a rebuilt dist at Pepboys. It was $105. Then a new cap, rotor and coil ran it up to about $135. They had a new Accel one there for $145 so I bought that one.
