It has happened to me twice. Use the di-electric grease for the module to distributor base install. The grease acts as a heat transfer agent. Prolongs life of the module.
I had it happen twice as well. Good move going with AC Delco. The last module I had in there cooked everything from the distributor on down. 75.00 towing charge and some new wiring to get running again. Don't go with these other so-called "hot" coils. Nothing but trouble.
I also had one go out last summer but it was due to the tach wire breaking and grounding out on the intake manifold. I replaced it with an old questionable one and did not coat the mating surface with fresh diaelectric grease!
Today, on the way to town to purchase a new one, I must admit that I almost took the exit leading to AutoZone but thought SCREW that crap. I don't want to be stranded in the middle of nowhere because of some made in TAIWAN piece of crap ignition module... So, I kept on driving to the Chevrolet dealer.
Got home, opened the box and wouldn't ya know it, stamped right on the back of the AC Delco ignition module was MADE IN TAIWAN
Not a big deal I suppose. If AC Delco had them made overseas, you can be sure that they met AC Delco specs.
I believe that quality products can be made in Taiwan. It is up to the company to insure that the parts are made to spec.
No name crap from Taiwan will have crap for spec.
