Just for interest sake....

I was wondering whether you guys use different heat range plugs in different cylinders on the same engine.

The center cylinders in my car foul plugs moreso than the outside cylinders. Darker brown/black, not wet. Edge cylinders nice light brown and dry.

I've considered it as the rear cylinders runs cooler on my 454. I guess there's really no downside to doing so?

It couldn't hurt anything to try that. If doing so shows that the plugs burn more consistently with a 'mix' of plug types, so what? Now, you may try it and find that you still have an issue with the 'middle' cylinders; and that could mean that "other things are afoot". Have you checked to see that the heat riser valve is still working and is fully open when engine is warmed up? If that valve is stuck partially (or fully ) closed, it can cause extra heat...at least, on the right side of the engine.

Try your approach and let us know how it works.
