Welcome to the C3 Corvette, LOL!
Is this normal? Well, it's normal for a C3 Vette, but obviously abnormal to you since you posted this question here.

Do a search on "interior heat" and "tunnel insulation".
There are things you can do to combat the heat. The aftermarket has been kind to our C3's. Keep in mind, the heat in the interior has more than one cause. There's mechanical, where all the vent doors are not shutting properly, and then there's just plain engine and exhaust heat caused by missing trans tunnel insulation, holes in the firewall, etc.
As a new owner of a C3, you are going to find out quickly that these cars are VERY finicky and VERY special breeds. We all go through this shock, I know I did, but I am in love with these cars and always will be. If you are handy, you will go far. There are people on this forum that are beyond amazing with their generosity and support and knowledge, not only of this car, but with cars as a whole. You could dismantle and build a C3 Vette, just by querying and asking questions on the forum and never crack a shop manual.
Good luck.

in my car the biggest culprits were missing firewall grommets and improperly sealing heater box. ive added reflectix as well. search and read. tons of info, for the tons of issues that add up to hot feet

self-clean or bake?
bake is normal, self-clean can be reduced by disconnecting (or inserting valves into) the heater hoses.

When everything is up to snuff (firewall insulation, heater controls, etc etc), then no, the 71 is not hot inside.

I drove mine this morning to a small show, high 80's. I left the AC off going there and was not hot. When I left it had gone up into the low 90's so I turned the AC on low and it was comfortable.

I've replaced all the firewall insulation, closed any holes I found, gone through the HVAC so all the doors seal and put dynamat-style insulation on the floor.

Yes, these cars can be warm inside, BUT in lots of places they're seeing three digit daily temps. We set a new record high for June here yesterday and might possibly do it again today.

If the outside air is 105 and only 90 inside your 71, you're fifteen degrees on the good side.
