Just took my car off the jack stands after 2 years rebuilding the rear end and other things( LS3 Mod). The rear end is all rebuilt and now I have 10 inches of clearance from the top of the rim to the fender well. It's very stiff and I'm wondering if I should expect any better. 9 spring leaf, all new bushings, rebuilt TA, sway bar bushings, shocks 15 1/4" were tight to fit. I still need to add the drive shaft, trans, gas and engine. I am being premature on the height?

Reason: 10" from rim
If all your suspension bolts were tightened such as front of the trailing arms and strut rod ends, with the suspension hanging, then all those joints are "happy" in that position. If you put it up on ramps in the rear and loosened them all then retightened them, it may make a difference. Also you need to move the car back and forth a little to let it settle.
I had to roll mine back an forth about 10-15 feet several times to get them to settle back down. They were almost completely settled afterwards. They finished (about another finger width) after I drove it around the block.
Hi DS,
I found on my 71 that EVERY bit of the car (weight of parts + gas) needs to be back together to begin to get even near to typical ride height listed in the AIM.
Longer spring bolts cure the symptom, but don't address the cause; and MAY cause other problems.
Things like the interior, glass, bumpers, and exhaust system all help bring the car down.
Regards,
Alan
