If comparing this to Modern Cars. The old Vettes have a giant hunk of cast iron under the hood that don't disipate heat very fast like aluminim does in modern cars. Also the fiberglass body is good insulation and tends to trap the heat wereas steel bodied cars help the cooling with all that sheet metal surface area. The side vents do work when the car is moving to pull heat from the engine compartment. Like and airplane wing the air moving over the fender panel and past the vent creates lift and hence vacuum assisted by the pressure in the engine compartment from the airflow and fan. They really do function! Making 300HP by detonating explosive vapor makes a lot of heat. The cooling system is closed loop so when you shut it down after driving all that heat rises and sits in the engine compartment under that nice thick fiberglass hood..

I have installed aluminum radiator, and new water pump. This helped but there must be a way to cool down the engine compartment more. Any suggestions?
