One last question(for now) Has anyone ever put in one of the above mentioned cams without changing the valve springs?
Not a good idea. Springs have to be matched correctly to cam or the cam won't live. Factory 40 year old springs won't be enough seat preasure, open pressure or accomodate the lift of modern aftermarket cams.
Thanks. I emailed Lunati today and asked them some questions. Trying to pick the right cam is a little tougher than I thought I it was going to be. I only want to do this one time (for now)
I didn't see 63Mako's reply before I replied. What you mentioned was my concern. I asked the question because I wondered if the old springs would be strong enough with a bigger lift cam. Plus I would hate to brake a spring only to have to put better springs in anyway.

Has anyone tried this cam? Lunati Voodoo 60202 camshaft, The rpm range souds perfect -1400 to 5800 RPM..
I'm using that cam in my almost stock (using a 9:1 pistons) 454 engine, I'm really happy with the performance, but if I would do it again, I'd go with the 60203 instead, the 60202 is so tamed on idle and will start to fall at 5000 rpm.
I'm with "63mako" on the spring opinion, as anytime I've increased lift from a mild stock cam, new springs were always part of the upgrade. I've done it a few times on an assembled engine, with compressed air, and not that big a deal. Actually fabbed up my own fitting from a gutted spark plug, brazing on a compressed air male chuck end. You'll need a spring compressor, and likely have to tap on it with a hammer, to break free from the retainer. Some shove rope into the chamber through the spark plug hole, but doesn't sound like such a good idea to me, as you risk bending a valve, if to agressive on top.

Yes, The Cam I linked is in between the 2 lunati cams.
I used the Edelbrock RV cam in a 454that was in my motor home.
there was a rebuilt street engine in it. The non peanut head version.
It is a great cam. Pulls hard a tiny hint of a lope but a great match.
It pulls large mountain roads at 80mph. I backed off the gas at 100mph and have got 14mpg.
I also have a Performer manifolds and Doug Thourly headers and true dual exhaust and Pertronix in my HEI distributor.
