Hi all, after selling my 69 350/350hp 4 speed vette, being pissed fore doing so but wife needed a major neck operation an thoughts were that we would need the extra moneys come to find out it was of little cost and she is doing better. I could not find another 69 to my likings so i bought a 72 z28 # matching, the previous owner replaced the carb because he tried to rebuild the original needless to say he did not know what he was doing, long story short, question is after getting the right rebuild kit and fixing his mistakes, carb is a 4150,6239 build date of 192 the front float bowl has filler bowl material, is this for sloshing or ??? and its only in the front bowl, is it necessary to reinstall this filler ??? the car is just a cruiser no racing. Thanks for any info out there, I know you guys are the best, sorry for selling my 69 but will keep looking for the right one, so don't beat me up to much THANKS.
They stuffed the float bowl in all evaporative emissions Holley carbs so there was less fuel volume when GM did the EPA testing. The EPA testing measured how much evaporative emissions was released in a closed test chamber, by reducing float bowl volume, it allowed the Holleys to pass testing. For any NCRS guys I have a few stuffing blocks around, $500 for the pair (there were 2 on in behind the float and the other in the metering block area.) Removing them will reduce the likelyhood of vapor lock and help performance
That 72 Z28 is a rare bird as the plant was on strike for about 5-6 months as I recall only 2200 made in 72, 2nd generation rally sports have always been one of my favorite Camaros and seem to be gaining in price lately, nice ride!
THANKS for the reply SOLID LT1, that was my next guess seems like i had read that also before somewhere. There is so much info on the corvette form and also on the camaro form to, yes I think i have myself a nice ride 72 z28 1 of 750 i believe built, rock crusher and 3.73, it would never stand up to the 69 vette but some day I will have another and again, THANKS SOLIDDDDDDDD LT1.
I just ran across the same thing and took it to my local speed shop. They were stumped. They called one of their old timer drag race guys and he said exactly what LT1 said. He said emissions and slosh. Mine was all cracked up, so I removed it. It was send particles into my float needle and it was keeping it from sealing off. The material just pulled out w/ a screwdriver and needlenose.
