Default Which Timing Light for a MSD???

Gonna start installing the 6AL-2 box for the MSD ingnition. Re-checked the instructions and it said NOT to use my dial-back timing light. Is that right??? I've got an old one as a backup but is it now my main light?

Bud.

I used my Mac dial back timing light and it worked just fine... sort of. Remember that you have multiple sparks below about 3000 RPM so setting a base line timing is kind of tough. What I was told to do was set the timing at above 3000 RPM and just aim for 34 to 36 degrees without the vacuum advance. It's a little noisy but it works fine.

I have an Accel 300 box which is also multiple spark and haven't had any issues with my dial back light. It's a Sun-Pro CP7519. Don't know if it's still available. It's so old it still says "Made in USA".

It will bounce around a bit but you can get the general idea of where you are, you should be setting total advance timing above 3000RPM where it is more stable and let your initial timing be, as long as it starts OK and idles OK at your desired RPM

Thanks. At least I know it's not gonna stuff up the timing light. As long as it works above 3000RPMs I'm good to go.

Bud.
