Default Wiring experts needed please.. 76 C3

Just started my 76 C3 after two years of restoring the car. I replaced the wiring in the engine bay to include the headlamp wiring.

Trouble;

1) All the lights work with the headlamp light switch pulled (on position).

2) Having trouble with my right front signal lamp and side marker - they will not blink with engaging the signal lever. (again, they will illuminate with the headlamp switch on only)

3) The DASH right hand signal arrow located on the lower portion of the tach is dead, meaning it will not light up with the signal lever engaged. (The left signal arrow located in the speedo works as it should)

4) Checked the ground with a test light touching the right front housing to + source and the tester lit up which means the ground appears good.

5) With the headlight switch on - The right rear tail light does not blink on it's own but will light up brighter when manually engaging the signal level back and forth which means it should work.

6) The relay for the left side blinker is located on the passengers side kick panel, it's a blue canister relay which works fine for a 30 ++ year old car..

7) Is there a relay for the right blinker hidden somewhere that I missed?

8) When engaging the hazards all four corners of the car work as they should meaning the lights go on and off..

What Am I missing?

Mike

You have a flasher for the 4-way's and a flasher for the turn signals. There is no separate left or right blinker.

The fact that your 4-way's seem to be working as they're supposed to would seem to indicate that the main harness is okay. The only thing that separates the left and right from the main harness functionally is the turn signal switch in the column. I would suggest you check the connection at the base of the column where the column connects into the main harness. If all of the connectors appear to be properly aligned and making proper contact you may need to examine the turn signal assembly itself.

Good luck and keep us advised of your progress... GUSTO

Thanks for the feedback Gusto - A few things to consider; when I initially connected the battery (for first time start up) the ignition buzzer came on and drove us crazy. After hearing it buzz for an hour I finially go pissed and traced it out at the base of the steering column and snipped it for the time being. The buzzer was behind the dash cluster and couldnt reach it. (I had the same problem with my 71 Buick GS and had to remove the ignition lock and fiddle with a thin metal "tang" that was making contact).

Also, the new washer pump motor came on and would not respond to the switch and I pulled the buss fuse and will chase that later. I have the schematic for the car and trying to understand how the whole thing is tied together. I wonder if one or both issues are part of the front right lights not working.

One more thing. In reference to the headlight harness - I have heard that the C3 Corvettes have grounding issues and made sure the grounds are connected properly. I have a bolt on the lower passenger side at the base of the core support with no ground wire connected to it. I figured the reason for the right front lights not working is because of the missing ground. I proved that out and it's not a grounding issue.
There are two ground wires on the new harness, one in the center underneith the nose cone screwed into the metal support at the base of the hood, and the other is on the drivers side mounted on the core support. I didn't know where that ground wire went and basically screwed it into the core support (it's a short wire). My guess is the old original harness had the ground mounted on the passenger side and the new harness has the ground wire on the drivers side. I made sure it was a good ground.. Thats where I'm at.. More to follow.

thanks,

Mike
