Default Ground Wire ?

Does anyone know what the black ground wire attached to the bell housing mounting bolt on the passenger side actually grounds?
I found it loose today and was able to tighten down the 9/16"
bolt 3/4 of a turn more and snug the washer against the eyelet of wire.
It then runs up along the fire wall behind the block and becomes one with a taped grouping of wires.
Just curious as it seem like an odd place for it
Thank you in advance
Marshal

It's part of the starter harness but it's actually the ground for the heater/AC high speed blower relay.

Hi Marshal,
On my 71 it's a 14 ga. wire, and is on one of the starter mounting bolts.
The way I read the wiring diagram it grounds both the heater blower motor and the wiper motor.
Regards,
Alan

Well, that wire only becomes a "ground" if the main ground wire between the frame and engine (at the right motor mount) is in place and functional.

Gentlemen,
Thank you for your responses.
I guess I need to become one with my AIM.
Thanks for the prompt answers.
This forum is my AIM.
I hope as I grow in my C-3 experience I can answer these
kinda qustions for the next generation.
Now, I don't have to worry about my wiper or fan switches cutting in/out.
Alan, I know you have a picture of this wire
So in 71, they attached it via a starter mounting bolt.
Interesting? Wonder why they would move it?
Marshal

So....if you are having problems with intermittant grounding, did you check the integrity of the main engine/frame ground wire?

P.S. The knowledge on this forum is vast--but, with every picture being worth '1000 words', the AIM has LOTS more information in it than what folks can type into any given thread. Buy an AIM. It's the best investment any C3 owner who DIY's can make.

Hi Marshal,
Here's the ground wire on the starter mount bolt.
I'm pretty sure St. Louis didn't run it in a little coil like I did.
Regards,
Alan
