I have had them both. I think you should realize there are actually 2 kinds of Hooker headers...Competition and Super Comps. The Competition headers have 1 5/8th primaries, and the Super Comps have 1 7/8ths primaries. I got the Competition headers ceramic coated for just over 300 bucks. The two differences I noticed between the Dynomax and the Hookers (besides price) were that the Hookers have better spark plug access, and also have 16 guage primaries, where I believe the Dynomax were 18 guage. That all said, I think either header is fine for most relatively mild street engines.
Hay Justin look at MG62 post on his ZZ4. He has A pic there of some Dynomax headers on his new motor and they look good :yesnod: .
Thanks Zane! Justin, here's that pic of the Dynomax Cerama-Coats bolted onto my new ZZ4. If you look closely, you can see the copper gaskets too.
I encountered the same "back order" issue that you have. Fortunately, Motorhead had some Dynomax's on hand that he was willing to part with. The issue was urgent for me, because I had the ZZ4 waiting to be installed.
I have the long style A/C compresser that is mounted on the passenger side. I found it best to just modify the original bracket for this setup. Little bit of grinding to clear the #2 tube and some spacers to make up the diff in between the manifold and header flange thickness. They enen give you a guideline on modding the bracket with the installation inst for the Dynomax. The factory bracket is much more sturdy than the aftermarket kind. If your comp is mounted on the driver side your aproach may need to be different. In have no expierence on that one.
well, i ended up ordering the dynomax ceramic coated headers, even though they are on back order. WIth my luck they will take 6 months to get here like my cam i still haven't gotten
You'll like the Dynomax. Im using percys dead soft aluminum gaskets for the collectors. I have unbolted the collectoes a # of times and they always sealed back up good. On the flange at the head im using Felpro sandwiched steel gaskets. The ones that come in the pro gasket sets. not sure what the individual PN is for them. They too, in over a year, have not failed me. Even after loosing a header bolt or two. Put a new bolt in, they never burned out yet.
Justin and mg62, is there a Canadain supplier for the dynomax's or did you order from Jegs/Summit in the south?
I ordered mine from a local performance shop that deals with a supplier. The price for them is 499.99. Which isn't too too bad. I also got price quotes for hooker comps (699.00) and super comps (1199.00) hahahahahaha, guess which ones came off the list right away
Sorry for not getting back soon enough but "work" got in the way. :) The pipe just barely touched the Z-bar and might have been OK but I wanted a little extra clearance so I didn't get rattles or knocks from the pipe banging the z-bar. I probably only dimpled the pipe 1/16 inch to get it to fit just right and in these cars that's a variance that's normal.
