Default Ever try a tornado?

Have you ever tried an infomercial product called a Tornado? It's a chromed sheet metal part that fits above the carb, in the airway...gets the air spinning. They show dyno runs, testamonials, experts, etc. But lots of those folks make better infomercials than products. Installation is easy but price is not ...$75... Stevo

75 bucks will buy enough beer to make me think of a way to make that out of the empties and make me believe that it works.

For a carburator to operate at peak efficiency you want the air flow into it to be as smooth as possible - this is why devices like velocity stacks, milled air horns and K&N stub stacks were created. The venturi effect in the carb is improved by this smooth airflow.

What possible gain can be had by making the air going into the carb more turbulant than it already is - (except the $75 gain by the mfr.).

So you might be tempted to use it on a fuel injected car - thinking - Aha - no venturi - so this will be an improvement, but think again - TPI motors have their injectors over the intake valves - they inject fuel in an already atomized state - so any additional turbulance will not further atomise the fuel - in addition - in these types of systems - intake velocity is important - the more turbulance is incerase the greater the likelyhood of slower velocities.

Sellers can post all sorts of tests and testimonials by people PAID to say good things about a product and people PAID to use a particular product, since they will not publish what else was done to the vehicle other than adding their product (such as a tune up or carb adjustment) you will never really know if there is any real value to a particular product without using it.

No one here has tried it, cause noone here buys the hype - some of us are pretty bright :jester

There's a class action law suit going on against them right now for false claims. I saw it in the back of one of my car mags.

It would seem that one of the 10,000 car mags would spend $75 and plug it into the dyno. Simple test, objective results and a good way to down the tv advertising competition. As far as a lawsuit being filed against them, so what? They sued O.J. Simpson and we all knew he was innocent.

Yeah, You would think that some magazine would do that, but only consumer reports seems to have the ability to test a product and tell youif its any good or not. When was the last time you can remember an article in one of the Performance mags EVER resulted in a negative endorsement?

Sure they can find fault with aspects of a product, but I cant think of one time that any Car mag came back with a ringing negative endorsement. You cant really blame them, it would eventually eat into advertising money, either directly or indirectly. And I would much rather have these mags around than not.

They sell a certian # of products. They dont tell you how many people asked for a refund. The ones that didnt ask for a refund, whether they were satisfied or not, are considered satisfied customers, and reported as such. If its TV only advertized and not on the shelves in all the stores, its for the most part a gimmick. This holds true for other TV only advertized products as well. Thats my opinion anyway.

If something so simple really worked, don't you think one of the automakers would have done it in the last hundred years or so?

I think you would get more performance by adding a few rice boy yellow stickers and maybe a Calvin sticker to your car.

Most people are trying to get MORE air into there engines, all this would seem to be is a added restriction meaning less air into the carb if you think about it!Smooth air good flow ...turbulance less air flow :D
