Has anyone ever heard of this , on my 74 vette the rear strut bushings were original, cracked and rooted, and the driver side rod was bent, so I ordered new strut rods with new bushing already pressed in. when I put the new rods on the rear wheel on driver side is kicked way out and the camber angle is way out of alignment ( here is the big question) could the driver side strut rod be bent by Bubba for adjustment. the new strut rod is longer without the bend, and is effecting the camber.????????? any tips would be a great help Rich outttt.
Hi md,
Back in the day, (and recently too) a sledge hammer was sometimes used as part of the alignment process rather than the camber bolt adjustment which would have been the proper way.
The camber bolt may have been rusted, or the person doing the alignment perhaps didn't know how to use the bolt to set the camber.
You should be able to get the camber back where it belongs using the camber bolt, since you had it off to put the new strut rods on.
Regards,
Alan
If you find that the wheel still cannot be aligned with the cam bolt adjusted all the way 'in', there's a good chance that the differential yoke is heavily worn. This is a very common problem and might be why bubba bent the old rod.
