I have a 78 corvette, that I am currently restoring. The problem that has just crept up is that the air conditioning, defrost .. all come out of only the heater vents. If I turn on the air, the compressor starts and cold air is generated, but is not being routed to the correct area. My question is how is the air routed. :chevy
The heater outlet is the default, which means your controls aren't doing anything.
Here's how it works: A vacuum hose goes from the engine to the control head (the one with the wheels/sliders on it). The control head sends vacuum out specific ports depending on how the wheels/sliders are set (heat, defrost, ac etc). Then hoses take that vacuum to the actuators which are located in various places behind the dash.
Since you are getting air out the heater vents, my first check would be the supply line from the engine to the control head.
