Default Borgeson Steering Box

I finally got the '76 running! Had it aligned to use the most caster it could, and while the steering is excellent, there is still a little bit of wander when going straight down the road.

I ordered a Borgeson pressure reducing kit, supposed to correct the problem, but their instruction sheet calls out a lot of different pressure set ups. Has anyone used this kit to reduce their pump pressure? If so, did it correct the problem and what pressure did you set, using the enclosed shims?

Thanks,

you sure it's not caused by too little toe-in? what did the shop set it for?

Toe in was set per VBP specs, which I don't have handy right now. According to what I have read, caster is the most important spec when using the Borgenson box. Do you have a Borgenson box? If so, what are your specs?

I have never heard of toe contributing to the 'twitchy' problem, but I am willing to learn.

this is directly from VBP instructions

Daily Driver - These specs are designed to minimize tire wear and dynamic forces on front end parts. Driver effort is minimum, the car will steer very "light" and may wander or be "darty" on road with wear ruts. If you are uncomfortable with this feeling, toe the car in up to a maximum of 1/8" total toe in.

C3 frames wear and lose caster adjustment. What is your caster now set at? If it is 2.5 or less degrees, you need more to fully enjoy your Borgeson box.

To get the greater caster used on more modern cars, you will need to install a set of tubular upper a-arms. These have a relocated upper ball joint and will easily give you 5 degrees of caster, which will definately improve tracking and elim wandering. It will compliment your Borgeson box nicely, increasing the 'feel' and reducing the lightness.

If your IRS in the back isn't up to specs you aren't ever going to get a stable ride out of your Vette. Is everything tight back there?
