Default 1982 CE Crossfire Issues PLEASE HELP!!

ok, 1982 corvette 23,000 miles. you would think this thing would run perfect. started it maybe a month ago and started up just fine, went to start it a couple weeks ago and battery was deader than a door nail. gave it a jump, with a little bit of effort got it to fire up and ran for about ten seconds then just died, wouldnt fire back up. thought maybe it was the fuel pump again, replaced it a couple years ago and had the crimp connectors come apart so assumed it was that again. checked it, looked fine, but bought a new pump and sender assembly just to be safe. nope, still wont fire up. if i pour gas into it it will start and just die. i know the fuel pump is running, i can hear it when i turn the key to on but i dont see any gas coming out of the injectors.

so what do you think? did i fry the pcm when i jumped it and then ran it on a dead battery? voltage spike? or did both injectors die at the same time? let me add fuel filter is also know. do they make a noid light to test for injector pulses on a crossfire? any help would be greatly appreciated, im ashamed to have such a low mile car that wont run!

Did you check the fuel pressure? Did you check the fuel filter? What condition is the air filter in?

The PCM is probably fine.

forhead smack didnt even think about injector fuses, even though i changed the fuel pump fuse just to be safe. fuel filter has maybe 100 miles on it, air filters are k & n and maybe 1000 miles. thanks for the tips guys ill check everything out, hoping its not pcm but its not too expensive if it is.

Is the computer storing error codes?

This is the procedure to check codes on the 82:

You need to jump the two top right pins in the connector under the ash tray.

Turn the ignition switch to "On" but do not start the engine.

Depending on the model year, either the "Check Engine Light" or the "Service Engine Soon" will begin to flash.

As the code display sequence begins, you will see a flash followed by a pause and then two flashes. This is the indication for the number "12". The number 12 is a delimiter intended to show where the ECM code display starts and stops.

Code 12 will flash three times and then any stored codes will flash. When all codes have been displayed or if there are no stored codes, the number 12 will again flash three times.

For example, a problem with the EGR system (code 32) will be shown as 12, 12, 12, 32, 32, 32, 12, 12, 12.

This would be displayed on the Check Engine/Service Engine Soon light like this:

12: flash (pause), flash, flash, (long pause)
12: flash (pause), flash, flash, (long pause)
12: flash (pause), flash, flash, (long pause)
32: flash, flash, flash (pause) flash, flash (long pause)
32: flash, flash, flash (pause), flash, flash (long pause)
32: flash, flash, flash (pause), flash, flash (long pause)
12: flash (pause), flash, flash, (long pause)
12: flash (pause), flash, flash, (long pause)
12: flash (pause), flash, flash (long pause)

The ECM code display will repeat until you turn off the ignition switch and remove the short.

There is a fuse in the battery compartment, it fires several things, the ECM is one of them. If the fuse is not functioning the check engine light will not light, but the engine will run if fuel poured through the injectors. This fuse ate my lunch.

I just had a similar problem and it turned out to be the ECM fuse in the battery compartment. Replaced it and the car runs perfectly. It's in the rear drivers side corner mounted against the wall. Hopefully that's it, easy fix. If not the 82 shop manual has a great trouble shoot chart.

a friend of mine with an 82 also had similar problems and like
c3nashvette mentioned about the fuse in the battery compartment. I believe it is a 20 amp fuse. check it closely as when my friend checked his the first time, it appeared to be ok, wasn't blown. when he went back to check it again, he founded to be corroded, changed it out and all is fine.

ding ding ding ding ding! we have a winner! changed that fuse and shot some cleaner into the socket for it and it fired right up. honestly started easier than it has in a loong time. changed all of the other fuses while i was at it, theyre 30 years old this year, cant hurt. thanks for all your help everyone, also changed the tranny pan gasket today as it had sprung a leak from all the sitting, this 82 is running like new now!
