Waterpump Issues 1968
1968 - small block. No AC or power anything.
On the left is the replacement water pump that I got at NAPA - GM casting# 3782608 seems to be the right one. My old one was also a 3782608.
But after 300 miles the pulley started rubbing on it. Did that pump come in 2 shaft lengths?
Belt alignment LOOKED ok...... but.....
PS:
For extra credit - can anyone ID the strange water pump I found in my garage? It's in the right of the pic. No number that I can see - bit it looks to be Chevy.

I would check out rock auto and pick up a water pump rebuild kit. They're cheap and easy to do.
I don't know what to tell you except the obvious, that both of those pumps are different. I haven't seen a plain Jane water pump like that in years so I would rebuild the old one.

The one on the right looks like a big block water pump. Is the NAPA unit a rebuild? You can have your original water pump rebuilt. Or just return the "defective" one to NAPA for a replacement. If you pull on the fan is there any play in the pump at the pulley? There should be no movement.

Dropped the alternator off at a rebuild shop for good measure.
Dropped the radiator off at a radiator shop for a little TLC too.
