Default Chambered Exhaust Question

I am planning on putting chambered exhausts on my 71 small block. I was wondering if anyone has done it and how you like it. Where is the best place to buy and how do they sound? Does the system need to be welded or just clamped?

I appreciate any feedback. Thanks.

I bought the chambered exhaust kit from MAD. I had to have sections made from the end of my headers back through the crossmembers. It has a deep throaty sound. However if I could do it again, I would buy sections of chambered pipe from classic chambered. hey are reasonalbly priced. Just have the sections welded or clamped in. Mine are welded in. Im sure you can have your exhaust system custom made so you can take it apart if you need to do undercar work.

I have Allen's Stainless Exhaust chambered system on my 72 SB. It's a bolt on system that I installed in my garage on a 4 post lift. I love the sound and get lots of complements. You can get in stainless or aluminized steel.

Default Hi and welcome again...

I've had these on since 8-2002, just over 10 years and they clamp together and sound great!
I got 603-858 for my auto trans, looks like you want 603-844.

The stock tips are turned down but I bought stainless tips and those I had welded on.

I have an Allens system on my 74. Its is OK but not the greatest for the amount of money it cost. The problems I had with it are...

When I first got it one of the tail pipes looked like it was bent around a tree and had kinks in it. It did not fit right. They would not cover return shipping for the pipe.

Around 1200-1500 RPM I can sense a vibration in the car. I guess some folks call this a "drone".

To keep the pipes in the rear of the car from drooping you will probaly need to get them welded up at a muffler shop.

The only other thing is that these pipes are LOUD. OK for a short trip to the local Sonic. On longer trip it does get to you.

odd that you say yours are loud. ive got them on my 69 with headers, and theyre insanely quiet at those rpms. i mean, i can barely hear them when the things idling.

ive been thinking about pulling one section of the exhaust off just to make it a bit louder.

I have 71 BB not sure the make they came on the car. Nice Rummble at idle but Loud and absolutley hate the popping when letting off the gas. My friend car has side pipes and sound pretty much the same. I will be putting on mufflers when the headers get installed

Default Too Loud Behind Headers

I have the MAD chambered exhaust behind Hooker Super Comp headers on my '69. They sound like open headers! While they sound good, they were way too loud for me. You couldn't get on it hard for fear of getting LEO's attention.
I put some stainless MagnaFlow mufflers on the car. Much better.

I have Allens 2 1/2 inch chambered II, out the back, system on my '69 L46. The fit was great with no problems. I installed them on my rolling frame so the install was easy.
I went for the chamberd resonators also. The system has a great sound and I feel they get quieter at hwy speeds. At the time I bought them they had a special on the price and free stainless steel tips. I would recommend Allens exhaust systems.
