Both head lights on my 1970 Stingray wont close after pulling on off the light switch, can someone tell me where to start checking? Air pressure seems fine to operate the wipers.
Thanks , someone at valet service pulled the handle on me, now one closes and the other stays open. Any recommendations?
The problem is somewhere in the part of the system that controls and operates only the headlight that won't close: relay, actuator, and related connecting hoses.
First check the small hose into the relay. If it's not connected or is plugged, that headlight will not retract. If it IS connected and you find good vacuum at that point, then test the relay. I think the relay is most likely your problem.
Since one headlight operates normally, you can be confident that all parts common to both headlights are OK: filter, check valve, headlight switch, pull-down bypass valve, vacuum reservoir, and hoses connecting those parts. The same logic applies to the parts controlling and moving the headlight that works properly.
Hi SS,
Which side isn't opening?
I don't mean to confuse things .... but....
on 70-72 cars with 2 headlight relays, the RIGHT-SIDE headlight RELAY vacuum supply is T'd off the same SUPPLY (yellow hose) as the WIPER- DOOR relay. Thus a problem at the RIGHT-SIDE HEADLIGHT relay/actuator MAY be traced to the WIPER-DOOR relay.
Both, (headlight and wiper-door), relays should be checked for proper function with a vacuum pump/gauge.
Good Luck!
Regards,
Alan
