Replacing Differential - What Else While I'm There
Pulling my 3.08 and replacing with a 3.73. Car is a 76, 60,000 miles, no breaks or bends and car sets level. With that said, I want to do this only once and pre order what I need as much as possible. So what parts, bushings etc. should I replace while I'm under the car? The trailing arms were rebuild less then a year ago, so no issues there.
Do you get a little "clunk" from the rear when the trans shifts? Mine does at 120K miles. I will replace the front differential mount bushing- the donut.
Rubber or Wilcox poly, part no. SU42C-40598 for '63-'82 $30.99.
You'll also have to remove the cat back exhaust and mufflers too. Maybe a good time to upgrade them if you want.
If your seals are leaking, I'd replace side yoke seals and pinion seal, check side yoke end play. The differential x-member reinforcement came recommended (Van Steel part # SG-47 http://www.vansteel.com/index.cfm?fu...&SubGroup=1929). I have one ordered so I can't tell you if it makes any difference just yet.
Obviously, the cover gasket. I'm doing u-joints and snubber bushing too.
Now would be the time for a spring and/or strut rod upgrade as well, if you are so inclined.
