added heat shield under card, insulated fuel line from pump to carb. question on timing. vac unpluged i set idle to 12 checked timing at 2000rpm found it is 22. what is proper timing ??? i have a mild cam. 350 bored 30 over, holley 600cfm, mallory dist.
22* at 2k may be proper but the question is what is your "all in" base + mechanical timing and at what rpm does it come all in. Most hear shoot for around 36* total (not vacuum) to come in between 2500-3200 or so.
If you have stock springs on your distributor, you are probably going to want to switch to a lighter pair to get your mechanical to come in much sooner. So if your find out your mechanical system adds 22*, then set your base at 14* to give a total of 36. Then, lighten the springs to make sure it comes in around 2500 or so.
Connect the vacuum can and measure your cruise advance. 52* is a good goal so you can change around your vac can if needed to control when and the amount of advance. Too high and it could ping.
