You are about to get a bunch of answers. I use Wix or NAPA Gold. Same filter, less than $10.

Try this site. http://minimopar.knizefamily.net/oilfilters/index.html

The "most popular" filter is probably a FRAM...because it's cheap! But, the best filter is the WIX or NAPA Gold filter.

Napa Gold 1794. Tall with lots of filter surface area, easy to grab to install and remove, hangs no lower than the oil pan on my car.

Personally, I like to stick with the OEM Delco filter. The original filter was a Delco PF25. The current replacement Delco is a PF454.

What ever you do, make sure you get one that fits properly, as a Fram 25 and AC/Delco 25 are different. The Fram 25 physically screws on, but gasket doesn't line up. Found this out, the hard way.

Baldwin B279

filter area 390.78 sq in
18 micron rating
length 5-11/32 in
300 psi burst
15 gpm flow at 5 psi
20 PSID By-Pass Valve

Some of you may not like the internal bypass, but more cold oil gets filtered than the stock bypass.

I use just about anything thats not made by fram.

I have Wix filters and AutoExtra for my 73. The AE are made by Wix, think Napa Silver. You can get the AE filters cheap at Rockauto.

But Mann/Purolator, Wix, Mobil1, K&N(oil only no air), Motorcraft, are just a few good name brands for Oil filters.

I had my engine rebuilt about 5000 miles ago. The rebuilder put a short Fram filter on for the startup. After the first hour of operation, I changed the oil and filter. I cut open the Fram filter, and was surprised to find absolutely nothing on the filter paper inside. I replaced it with an AC Delco filter. After 1000 miles, I pulled the Ac filter, and cut it open. The filter paper was absolutely covered with lint from shop rags.
The Fram filter was so restrictive, the system was in bypass mode the whole time! It was not filtering anything out of the oil!
Fram filters are junk, IMHO.
You can use the AC or NAPA Gold series filters for the rear wheel drive pickup trucks. (The old AC number was PF-35. I don't remember the current number). I use the medium truck filter (NAPA 1794). It's so big it most likely will never go into bypass, and you will get 100% filtration, 100% of the time. Although it won't fit, probably, if you have headers or an oil cooler.

For the Vette I use a gm PF35L. It is the truck length filter but also has a 12 micron ABSOLUTE rating - the best you are gonna get. Not cheap and not every place carries it. It was developed for racing the sbc so you can bet it flows a lot too.
BTW, I have long tube headers and the easiest way to remove the filter is to punch a hole in the bottom, let it drain and then run your punch through the bottom end of the filter, sideways. Comes off no sweat.
For my DD P/Up I use a NAPA Pro Select, which the parts guy swears is the same as the Gold, packed at half the price.

My choice. Roughly equivalent to the old Delco PF-35.

Wix is my preference. You can get them at Carquest if you have one in your area or a Napa gold is wix. Cheaper at Carquest.

Woa! What's a Delco PF 1218 then?
Because that's what they sold me.
