I've been reading where folks have been finding their build sheets and most have found them on there tanks. Well, I think I have a new one. I was removing the instrument cluster and found my build sheet stuffed between the Speedometer and the Tach. The sheet had only one tear in it after 40 years. Actually it's in preety good shape.
So, for those who don't want to pull there fuel tanks, take a look just above the Speedometer and Tach.
Other than on the tank, copies of build sheets have been found in the wiring behind the speedo/tacho, like your find, in the wiring behind the center cluster, behind either kick panel, tucked in the springs under a seat, under the carpet in the rear storage area, and folded and tucked in the spring shackle under the rear.
I found mine stuffed inside the frame when I was doing my frame off resto. I was blowing out all the black widow spiders that had made a home in there and didn't realize the sticker was there until it was pretty much distroyed. There was nothing on the tank. I've got it wrapped and sealed in waxed paper on a piece of cardboard but you can't read much of it.

You're not alone! Over the years I've looked behind the gauges, under seats, carpets, and in various places underneath. Alas, the only place I KNOW it is, is on the tank! Maybe one day I'll drop that out to retrieve it!
when I did my '69 resto there were no build sheets anywhere. the only thing I was hoping for was under the factory carpeting in the rear storage area but no such luck. since my car was built in october of '68 I did find some drawings of holloween pumpkins inside the pass. door on the fiberglass, probably from a assem. line worker.
Cool find , mine is still sitting between the tank and the back wall on the vette , pretty good shape but I can't get it out without pulling the tank so I'll leave it there ,

The tanks come out easily, just make sure it's empty!
I have the build sheet, the window sticker and the GM finance contract f/ mine. My (ex) father-in-law bought the car new and gave me all the paperwork including the note book and all receipts f/ every repair, including oil changes, the car ever had done on it. The car never had any bodywork done on it as it was never hit at all anywhere. It was repainted about 14 years ago and I have all the paperwork on that also. I was just lucky. My father-in-law was a career military man and kept the documentatioin on everythihng, and all of it.
I did hear that you can get build sheets from GM, and it has the process on one of the 'Vette sites. You also can figure out when your car was built from the code on the "A" pillar on the driverside and then going to the Corvette World site and see what numbers and how many 'Vettes were built each month of that year. Not hard to do. Mine was built August 21, 1981. I was surprised that they were still building the 1981 Corvettes in 1981, and as late as August, considering that the new models come out in July thru September of the year prior, ie; 2012 models come out in July thru Sept. 2011, ofcourse you guys know that.
***Does anyone know why the 'Vettes were built late into the same year of the car? ie; August of 1981 f/ a 1981 model.

I am in the process of restoring my 68. When I removed the tank I found a tank sticker. However, it wasn't the one I was looking for. It was a replacement tank sticker from the GM Warehouse going to some repair shop in Houston TX. The ship date looks funny to me. It looks like 11242. Can someone tell me what the ship date of the tank was? I have owned the car since the mid 80's, so it was replaced before then.
