Default Valve cover gasket ???

I have ZZ4 heads on my 75.

After some recent work I need a new valve cover gasket.

All the gaskets I have found are about 3/4" short.

The gasket That is on it sets right in place.

ANY ideas?

Ralph

It's length ways. I need 19 5/8"

I guess I'll go to the Chevy dealer tomorrow, but they cost so much more.

If you bought 100% cork gaskets, the ones you have are old and dried out....they've shrunk. You can put them in water for an hour and they will probably go back to the right size. If you do that, don't do more than snug the bolts down until the water evaporates back out. And, you won't be able to put any sealant on them when damp. Cork gaskets should be packaged in an air-tight Vac-u-Pak where they can't dry out. Many are; some are not.

The better option is to buy composition gaskets made of a cork and synthetic rubber mixture. Those seal much better (as is) and don't tend to shrink nearly as much. They also don't need sealant, except in difficult cases where the mating surfaces are rough or wavy.

The best choice is to buy best quality Fel-Pro gaskets which you can install and forget. (But, I'm sure there will be an "exception" out there. There always is.)

I agree buy the best.

My old cork compound gaskets fit fine, they just tore.
It's the new gaskets that are to short.

So here is the story.

Rubber gaskets need to be glued and then stretched into place.

Cork gaskets are the right size to start with.

3 parts houses and the dealer didn't have the answer.

A speed shop in Sacramento knew the answer.

And that is the rest of the story.
