Last issue left before fire up is the adjustment of my trans kickdown linkage. My question is, at what point of the linkage travel, does the trans downshift? The linkage cable end has the long slot that allows for throttle movement, then at the end of it's forward travel, tension is felt in the cable as it pulls a mechenisum in the trans.... now at what point of that tension travel does the trans downshift? Full out? Half way out? I hate trial and error, and would like to get this adjusted the first time. Thanks guys... I am getting so anxious to fire up this beast. It's been on stands WAYYY TOOOO LONG and weather is finally nice up here....
is it a th-400- or do you have a upgrade --700-r4------if its a 700r-4like i have in my 1973 first you take a screwdriver and pop up the clip on the back piece where the adjustment is mounted to the back of intake manifold---move it all the way foward------in this position it will go in 1st --2nd--3rd--- and overdrive------but when you push the petal to the floor it wont down shift yeat---------------- now un clip the clip again and move it a few threads foward towards the rear or firewall-------- run the car get up to 60 or so and punch it to the floor------if it still doesnt go into 3rd gear move the black plastic hosing back a few more threads toward the rear of car(away from radiator) take it up to 60 or so again and punch it if it still doesnt kick down repeat the procedure until you first get a passing gear--- you may have to go even a little futher-after it works to get it-------- the reason for doing it this way is if you dont start from scratch-------- youll go in 2nd from overdrive and i did this at 80 mph and it redlined ---could of blew my motor------ you simply cant do it in one step--- trans guys have told me if you drop the pan and open the troddle all way up then set the valve in the trans to fully open it should work---but you sometimes have to play with it---------- mine was way---way--way-----off-----carl--------
Thanks for the reply Carl. I was afraid I'd have to play with it. I have the standard 3 speed 350 trans, and have just converted the throttle/trans linkage to my new Holley 750. The trans cable is stock, so the procedure you described will work. Just looking for a short cut...
Thanks again...
