I used AD performance and Summit for most everything.

One quick note about the Corvette Central exhaust. I picked up a dual conversion and it didnt fit very well. Spent just as much having the muffler shop adjust and tweak it until it fit. They didnt want to seal either.
Also, the dual exhaust hangar that bolts under the transmission is interfering with the AT modulator. So Ill have to figure something different until I can swap in a 5spd manual.

The cats quieted it down a little too.

Any updates on how it runs on the street with your combo of parts compared to the stock L-82 now?

Still dialing in timing and carb. updates to follow.....Big vacuum leak causing fits....

Road test will have to wait. Transmission Vacuum modulator took a crap, developed a bad vacuum leak and sucked tranny fluid into the crankcase. Ugh.

Back on the road! Had a few setbacks....AT vac modulator went bad, sucked tranny fluid into the engine..I caught it quick, but the weather has been too nasty to work on the car (Garage is full of hibernating motorcycles) so it sits outside until I can store the bikes in the trailer again. (Racebikes dont have antifreeze)

Anyway, fixed the modulator, leaking header gasket, loose rocker arm, and leaking waterneck..>whew< and took it for a spin in the sunshine today.

Needs to drop about an inch r so in the front...the Aluminum heads make it ride high. Cut a coil, F41 springs, or something else?? Hmmm.
Idles nice at 700rpm. Pulls great to redline. Has an inconsistent and re-occuring miss/pop/surge at 4500+ (Was a clogged fuel filter.) Have to diagnose that still...but it cruises great, no pinging. Pulls hard to 6500 rpm.......

Runs the way an L82 SHOULD have from the factory.

To sum up:

AFR 195 heads, Howards Roller cam, Scorpion Full Roller rockers, .015 Head Gasket, Performer RPM, stock Quadrajet, drop base air cleaner, McJacks shorty Headers. Stock AT Turbo 350 and stock stall converter.

I want to point out also that Im running 10.5 compression, 16 degrees initial advance, 32 degrees with mechanical, vac advance hooked up to manifold vacuum, and it runs fine on 89 regular pump gas (ethanol blend) with no pinging. Score!

I found your cam W/ 278 intake duration. What LSA are you running 110, 112, 114? Your 4 degrees less total advance than the 36 usually figured as performance total vacuum. The chambers on the afr heads will likely not give much up in power @ 32, 34 will likely be better. The effects of your ideal quench of .040 and flat top piston combination is not to be underestimated for detonation resistance. Also zero carbon buildup on the new heads, aluminum heads and cool outside temperatures will all contribute to resistance to detonation. And you have forged pistons for insurance. Your combination of detonation resistance in your design and materials is huge and attention to details produce results. That said, Score! BTW I have seen 8.2 drc w/ al heads ping and I have seen 8.7 not. The combination is the key.
I figured 65 CC heads, .015 gasket thickness, 4.100 gasket bore, 4" cylinder bore, .025 deck clearance, 3.48 stroke , 5.7 rods 112 lsa (67 icp) and came up with 10.145 to 1 compression and 7.964 to 1 DCR which should be fine on midgrade fuel.

Looks great! I am in the process of doing the same thing, I am upgrading a Pace L82 for my good friend. I was going to use Edlebrock Heads, I see you used AFR's. How did the McJacks fit? I am on the fence on headers, not sure what brand to use. I talked to Stans Headers. Our Pace does not have to go through emissions anymore, so I might take off the smog system.

McJacks fit great...same location as the stock manifolds. Easy spark plug access. If you dont have to worry about smog, you wouldnt have to go with the ones with the air pump fittings, like I did.

I have McJacks without the Air fittings on my stock L-82 4 speed. I like them a lot. Are you going to get the car on a dyno to see what kind of RWHP it makes with the heads, roller cam and intake change?

Don and I have communicated about my issue with the L-82-think I have a head issue with the 882 heads and plan on a similar conversion if the 882's cannot be reused. I want to see how much I can do with the OEM parts since i want to keep it an original L-82-rebuilt 882 heads (changing everything that needs to be changed-springs, valve guides, valve job, valves if need be etc, gasket port matching-I know someone who will do the work for $350-500 for both heads depending on what I need), lunati hydraulic cam 262/268 cam, Felpro 1094 gaskets, OEM aluminum intake. If the heads cannot be reused than I will be going with AFR 180 65CC aluminum heads (not planning to rev it past 5,500 RPM with the stock bottom end), Howards roller cam (slightly different than Don's-a little milder) and the OEM intake.

Can you describe how it runs in a little more detail-power off idle, mid range, upper RPM etc? Thanx

Thanks for the update. What you've done to your L-82 is exactly what I"d love to do to mine, so I've been following closely.

The car makes good power from off idle to 6500+ with very linear power. Ill make a short video this afternoon and share. although low-mid throttle response may not be super crisp, Its very peppy.
It really makes great power from 2500+. Im running 3.73 gears also.

Power doesnt come on abrupt and spin the tires...its very smooth.
When the trans shifts at 5500, the car doesnt lurch forward, but continues accelerating and oving forward. I dont expect to get it on a track until spring at the earliest.

As for daily driving, its as near perfect for a mild street car as you can get. Idle isnt too radical, and it doesnt lack for power. If anything the lower power band "laziness" may be attributed to the large 195cc runners. This combo really woke up the L82.
