A/C system service
What are the correct gage settings when recharging with R-12? How much freon is suppose to be in the System? How cold should the air get? I have new hoses and VIR valve and it is ready to charge. My friend is coming over tonight to set me up. He doesn't work on cars very often but the he isn't charging me the high dollars for the R-12 that the shop wanted to charge me. Any help would be appreciated

First you must pull a vacuum to 28"hg. Then service at the low side port until you get 29-30 psi on the low side. High side will vary but should be around 180-200 psi.. The system holds 3 1/4 lbs. R-12.
