What is the difference between a big block and small block fan clutch? I need a fan clutch for my 70 LT-1 and I can't seem to find one although I have seen several listed for a big block. They look the same, are they?
Fan clutch. I realize the fan is different. The 70 LT-1 used a Schweitzer not a Hayden. I believe all Corvettes that year used Schweitzer but that may be wrong.
Hi spf,
I believe there were different fan clutch part numbers for sb, bb, and bb special hi-performance engines, and engines powerering a/c.
But according to the info in the 71 AIM the LT-! engine used the "production parts" fan clutch and fan, which I believe means it used the same fan clutch and fan as the base sb engine.
I'm looking at the info on the LT-! option pages.... UPC LT1, Sheet A4.
So I think at best you'd be looking for an appropriately date stamped sb fan clutch.
In 71 that would be a 3916139. Your 70 AIM will indicate what it was for 70.

Alan
