As I am working on my "new" 76, I keep finding where it looks like the PO removed parts. The first picture is just behind the passenger wheel well. I see open holes where there looks like there should be a support bolted on.
On the driver's side there is a support that attaches to the wheel well. Though it is loosely held on by one screw, at least it is there.
I looked through the AIM twice and could not find these panels. That doesn't mean it is not there, I just couldn't find it. Is there supposed to be a support on the passenger side? Is it in the AIM? What is it called? Thanks.
Yes. It keeps some of the road salt (if they use that where you live) away from the #1 body mount. That panel was missing on my car for years. When I lifted the body off the frame two years ago, I discovered that the #1 body reinforcement was almost completely rotted away.
Get another one and replace it. I think I got mine from Zip.
Doug1, Yes Sir; Weight reduction, huh, that hole will let wind go up it & act like a anchor, holding the whole car back. Have a great one. Gene
haha, every bit counts! happy new year! gotta remember, I got a 78, heaviest pig they made. most weight reduction costs money, fiberglass rear spring, tubular tranny crossmember, aluminum calipers, etc. etc. the cost on removing that part, $0
No clue about later years, but my 69 has them on the firewall below where it turns straight up, and then from the rear end of that to the crossmember. WITH insulation.

Splash shields; one on each side, right and left. UPC 11E Sheet 2 View A It's numerical page 382 in my 76 AIM (from Corvette America), but do not rely on the numerical page number.
