Default Distributor help

So a few months back I picked up a '78 vette. And I am getting ready to do a full tune up on it (all fluids, plugs wires etc.). But I was thinking about replacing the current distributor for a better one. Now im not to firmiliar with them so what would you guys think would be a good replacement. Now keep in mind thats its some what a daily driver when the weater is nice. So I don't need anything race like or fancy. Was thinking something from MSD.

Also Summit Racing has this Top End Engine Kit. You guys think its worth it. I know the power wont be much if any. But I was thinking along the lines of swapping out the old parts for new ones.

Its a lot of parts for the money. If someone has a totally stock engine and wants to do all those parts in one fell swoop then its a good deal imho. Not sure why you say power won't be much if any? as far as the distributor, unless someone has a real race machine, I'm not sure the MSD distributors are worth the extra money over a $125 stock accel type. I do have the $100 MSD wires though on my pig....lol

Why do you think you need a new distributor? Unless there is something wrong with it, you can purchase a few new parts for the inside, a new cap, and get it running fine.

For a driver, the stock HEI is fine. Tune it and keep the rest of the money in your pocket.

You've already got a better one. Shiny billet units with flame red paint won't make your car go faster.

You have nothing at all to gain by swapping out the distributor. Set up the one you have with a proper curve.

Aside from the money drain, is there a drawback to going to an aftermarket setup? I went to the MSD Digital HEI module so that I'd have a rev limiter and square-wave tach output for data logging. Works good so far, with 15 minutes on it.

My '78 runs 11s with my tuned HEI - no point in replacing it!
