I was just wondering if anyoen else came into trouble with there fuel gauges. Mine is stuck at 1/2 tank after putting fuel in it. Now I know that the sender could be bad. Or it could be the guage. Could it be anything else. And if so do you guys know how to fix it with it costing me an arm and a leg.
Is your ground connected?
Here is a reply from Wilcox from another thread, it may help.
"On all Corvettes 1963-1982 the fuel gauge should put out 0 – 90 ohms. 0 being empty and 90 full. Test the out put of your sending unit and see what it’s putting out when you have a full tank. You may have a bad potentiometer in the gauge giving you the wrong resistance reading when full."
I have not figured out if its grounded yet. Do you think all that quote is possible to do in a everyday garage with basic tools. or should i have a mechanic look at it
Either there is no signal or power getting to the gauge at all, the sender rheostat is stuck [or failed] at one place on its travel (not the float, of course), or the gauge is locked up. You will need to "test" the gauge, via the sender wire going to it, to prove the viability of the gauge and the wiring. You will also need to clean the sender grounding wire/connection. If all works as expected with that "test", then the sender is bad.
