Best wishes to all in the coming year. My dashboard speakers are shot,
can they be removed from the top without the complications of dash removal and possibly cracking the dash. I searched the forum and could not find any info on past experiances, so before the undertaking, I thought let me post the Q. Thank you.

Actually they must come out from the top Isaac. Be careful removing the grille from the dash pad, they become brittle from age. We made a tool for removing the bolts/screws (depending on year) from the old speakers made from an old tiny socket welded to an old wrench. Most socket and ratchet combo's will hit the glass when you try to get in there.
If needed I can post you a picture of this tool on Monday.
I was able to change mine out without doing any damage to the dash. I don't remember what tools I used, but it was just what I have in my tool box. Wasn't very difficult. Good luck.
If I remember correctly and sometimes I don't.....
it is 8mm size bolts that are in there. I used a very small ignition wrench which did the trick, but takes forever to remove and install.
I am sure Ernie's tool will work much better for the removal.
Thank you to all, I will update once i research and decide on the set up with pictures. Any suggestions to include the rear speakers, and original radio?
what you go with will depend on, do you want factory or good sound .i gave up the factory stuff for aftermarket stuff and have been glad that i did .http://1982corvette.shutterfly.com/pictures/94 i put the 6x9 speakers on the side .easy to do and can always go back to stock .no loss of space or room for t-tops.cutting the dash with a dremal was verry easy and can always go back to factory if needed[will never happen]the change over was one of the things that made driving the car that much more fun for me.
