MotorHead, that engine sounds like a good deal for the price! I wonder why not up the CR a bit?

Assuming theoretically I would buy the above 383 + a 200R4 (bowtie level 2) what mods and upgrades should be performed on a 79vette assuming modern large size tires in the back? torque converter/pumpkin ratio?

Me two. Puts an ear to ear grin of you're face that makes ya think you might giggle and crap your pants at the same time. Damn fine hobby and well worth the money and time in my opinion. If your corvette doesn't pin ya to the seat at some point it needs work.

Just keep replacing the parts you break, actually if the rear end parts aren't rotted out or broken and in good shape you will be fine just drop it in and stay away from slicks or any other tire that will dead hook. Parts are matched for 9.5cr

Thats what I tough too - "replace what breaks" but I would like to avoid U-joints braking on green light etc so I figured its better to ask what will break. Also I have never driven on these ultra high performance tires, any chance a street legal tire will dead hook?? I'm thinkin somting like a pirreli, or hoosier makes a street legal slick...

Use solid U-joints, instead of ones with grease fittings...they are significantly stronger. Put safety loops around the half-shafts to keep them from 'whipping', if a joint fails.
