Where does the 'redline' shift point on the tachometer start? That will pretty well determine what engine came in the car.

If you don't have the original engine and tranny then the car will never be "original". I would just get the engine and tranny that performs the way I want it.

Where are you getting those codes?
69 MS, C, FC; would be a COPO 427, M22, w 4.56
and J56 heavy duty brakes were an option in 1969

I got those codes off of a tag on the tank plus other info that came with the car. The car is a two owner. I got it as a stollen recovery stripped car.

MS looks like a 69 corvette 427 Last column reads "questionable" though...idk what that might mean...maybe related to horsepower, carburation, or transmission combos with that block?

A 69 COPO 427 would be VERY questionable. There's almost no information on it and most people claim only one was ever built. Can you post a picture of the tank sticker?

There is no '69 engine that is spec'd for a 6300 redline. I do not know how the tachometers on the L-88's were marked; they were spec'd at 5200...but we all know that's a bunch of hooey.

He says 6500 redline; 6300/6500 = L88

Waiting on the photos with ya.

I am betting it is a 1969 L88 M22 4.56 car in which case you got a gem if it is at all restorable. 100 point NCRS restoration is in order here. The tank sticker is gold. Parts are rare. Resto will be expensive but finished car is worth the effort and expense. There is a guy in New York with the machine that will deck it with correct broach marks and you can restamp the pad with a rentable correct gang stamp. This is part of this type of restoration but needs to be documented and disclosed. Trans codes and stamps are going to be someone elses area of expertise. Hope the differential is correct as they are scarce. There was one for sale in the C3 parts for sale section a while back as well as a carb. If you can document this as an actual COPO car I would bet your looking at a $500,000 car with a correct restoration. Good score!

....you should also check for evidence of the transistorized ignition and likely F41 suspension.
