Could a July 17 1972 car build date have 1973 date wheels
No. Wheels are dated the month, day and year they were manufactured. A July 17th, 1972 Corvette should have early to mid July, 1972 dated wheels. Even early 1973 Corvettes would have 1972 dated wheels since the start of 1973 production was on September 1st, 1972.

Every part to be installed on your car was manufactured by the various parts vendors, shipped to St. Louis, and stock piled before assembly of your car began. That included five wheels per car. If you are looking for correctly dated wheels, middle of May to the end of June, 1972 would work for you.

Hi pdb,
I agree with Mike and Ed.
A car can have parts with a CALENDER date EARLIER than the model year of the car, but not LATER than the car's BUILD date.
For instance a 71 car built in February of 1971 can have, and probably will have, parts with late 1970 dates on them since they may have been produced in the fall of 1970.

Alan
