Default Mufflers

Hello Fellow Vetteheads,
Going to replace my mufflers this year and need some input on which ones to get... one site has Dynomax or the standard aluminized..any thoughts..have headers if it makes a difference.
Thanks

If you have not already done so, you should take a look at Corvette Central's website. Part of their site is dedicated to just exhaust systems. I am sure they will have something that will catch your eye...

I am about to replace the muffler system (which has about 800 miles on it) with hooker headers and side pipes on my 69. Let me know if you have any interest in buying it after you check on the cost of buying new.

I went this route for $40. Sounds deep and probably a touch louder than Magnaflow.

I had a balance pipe welded in by a local Meineke muffler shop (Mountainside, NJ). It quieted things down nicely on the highway. Not so much different around town. Had to slightly richen the idle afterward.
Much happier now.

I'm an old school kind of guy. I went with turbo-style mufflers and am very pleased with the sound. With my cam and headers it sounds almost like a factory LT-1 rumble. While i was growing up and far too financially challenged to own a Vette, I always noticed that a Corvette had a sound that no other car had and no one could duplicate with their aftermarket setups on their hopped up Chevelles and Mustangs. I have that sound. I love it!

I am with you! I actually have magnaflows on a 94 Mustang GT with the magnaflow X pipe and high flow cats (4 of them!!) with BBK shorty headers and they sound great. I added the X pipe high flow cats after the cat back system and the BBK headers and the X pipe really enhanced the sound. Also have a cat back magnaflow system on a pontiac grand prix that sounds great. BUT

Fellow Forum member Karol has the magna flows on his 78 L-82 4 speed but with stock manifolds versus my 78 L-82 4 speed with Mcjacks shorties, and his car sounds nice and like a typical SBC. They are also really loud at WOT and on the highway.

I prefer and have run Monza Turbos since 1989. They sound much smoother than the typical SBC mufflers which to me sound too motor boaty and they are not obnoxiously loud on the highway- I have 3.70 gears and the motor turns 3,500 RPM @ 70 MPH.

With that said it really is all personal opinion. Hope that helps!

Does anyone have information on KBD Targa mufflers? Has anyone installed on a shark? any pictures of how they look? How do they sound? Not to loud? Feel weird about changing the traditional look....
Too many decisions LOL.
THANK YOU ALL FOR THE HELP

I had magnaflows on my car before I changed to hooker headers and side pipes. I loved the sound of my magnaflows. I wish they made in insert for side pipes.

Hey Casey, you know what I'am talking about when it comes to the "right sound" I like the LT1 comment...I have headers and a slight cam with true duals off the headers...What type of turbo's do you have and do they tuck up out of site?
