I have a 72 with the removable rear window. with the latches released the window wont budge, I afraid to put much pressure on it. and then I hear stories of them leaking really bad. I would like to hear what others have to say about it, and any ideas to get it loose.
There is no obvious blockage caused by the latches jamming on the catches? If not, try a piece of wood and a small hammer from outside and tap gently on the top of the window frame.
Hi Paul,
Along with Mel's suggestion try tapping upward at the top and downward at the bottom on the inside of the aluminium glass frame using the small block of wood.
Sometimes the window seems to get wedged into place at bad angle and won't release from the rubber seal.
Good Luck!
Regards,
Alan
Have you ever removed that rear window in your car? If not, perhaps a PO 'solved' a leak at that window with a nice bead of silicone sealer on the window frame. Look closely and see if you can spot any sealant from the outside.
Thanks for the replies, ill take a look at the latches, they didn't seem to be stuck but ill look closer. I would not be surprised if the window has sealer on it. This poor car has be attacked by bubba several times. one thing I found that bubba did was if something electrical that was not important like dome lights cig lighter, radio etc. if it didn't work cut the wire and tape it off. somewhere along the line of owners of this car I know it was bubba. lol
