Default Undercarrige cleaning?

Am I the weird one or do others get under there car and wipe down everything? I've spent 2+ hrs tonight just trying to degrease the front end. Wiping all the a-arms tie rods, pans etc..just to clean up the old grease and oil...
I use to do this on my last rod at least 1 if not 2x year. It keeps me in tune whats going on with my baby..Friends think Im crazy to do this..Maybe I am weird..I'd say I have at least 40+ hours left on this vette or more beings its never been done..I've waited along time to own a vette, and its paid for.. enough said.....
Does anyone else do this? I bet I'm not alone here..
I look at it taking pride in what you work your butt off to own and take pride in it!!!
Peace,
J

I thought everyone changed their "underwear" at regular intervals.

I do this also. People are normally surprised by how clean the engines are in my vehicles. Once you get one clean, it doesn't take much to keep it that way. I am dreading defunking the bottom of my new vette. Its nasty down there and my house doesn't have stains in the driveway...time to hit the car wash and let their grease trap have it.

wash once in awhile, wipe to keep stuff from building up fairly often... but I drive my 'vette in most everything but snow, so keeping it spotless would be an effort in futility... and potentially encourage me not to drive it in most anything - which would be a travesty. Corvettes are for driving

One should always start by having the underside professionally steam cleaned. That gets rid of the built-up caked-on dirt/grease, etc. The rest is just time consuming. But, if you are **** like the folks in this thread [including myself, of course], it's just a little more "FUN" to get out of that 40 year-old machine.

P.S. A good spray degreaser and a light pressure wash under there about once per year will keep the "meanies" away.

I use easy off when it's really bad, then I use rust reformer to stop any rust I may find then I paint accordingly with high gloss paint, preferably with hardener.
I go through some trouble the first time, but then it's just a little spray degreaser and the hose.

I think there are a lot of us here on CF with the sickness. I did not plan to be that **** with the car, but my philosophy has always been to clean, repair, replace and paint any area of the car as I work on it. After a few years it started looking pretty clean all over. After putting in that much effort, I can't stand the thought of it getting grimey again. I also inspect everything to make sure no new surprises.

I used to do that years ago. Still try to keep my '66 that clean, but my '79 is for driving. I let it get dirty, and the underside only gets cleaned when I have to take it apart to work on it. But I certainly understand guys who like to keep their cars spotless.

I used about 40oz of Greased Lightening and four rolls of paper towels to clean mine when I did my clutch/tranny rebuild. Once done it is easy to touch up.

When the bottom of the car looks like MIKE80 and Alan 71 does do you really have a choise?
I don't think so.
"SICKNESS" only to those who don't understand.
Oh and I suffer from the same disease.

Where do you buy the Kwiklifts? I tried the link to their website on the other post, but it doesn't work.
