Default C3 on the track

Any of you guys take the old c3 on any track events such as time attack or just racing around the track ? Or will these cars get destroyed out there as far as break downs etc to much for out old engines ???

Any car can be set up for track events. The first thing that I would address as far car preparation is to install a proper road race-type oil pan. To drive any car on a road course without some means of keeping the oil around the pickup. Other things to address are stiffer springs, bigger swaybars, better-than-stock brake pads, and a separate set of wheels and tires so you don't destroy your street tires, which WILL happen if you run them on the track.

There's still about six of us who aren't losing sleep worrying about affecting the collector resale of our C3s, and drive on the track every chance we get.

I hit 140/145 on my boy's GPS. Not bad for my old C3.
Hopefully you can make it down there this year.

You can probably do without a road race oil pan if you're only doing laps at Talladega...not much lateral G there!

Those are great pics vette427. I am considering building my c3 for road racing since I am building from the ground up. Love the front spoiler and side exhaust.

I'm not sure what time attack is? SCCA after jumping through some hoops will get you up to a Time Trials events where they let a bunch of different classes racing around the track with only marked straight way passing zones. I think the best deal is test and tune days where you are in specific run time groupings.

Anything can go around a track. Is it prudent, safe, responcible is another question.

I for one as a young lad fell for the mystic that Corvettes were really something I was so dissapointed in the lack luster abilities of my 79 L-82 with all kinds of options. It took years an alot of money to actually make it into something kind of fun to take around a track.

I've been able to do over 100 mph 360's at the track and it never rolled so it must be safe.

6? I know there's at least that many around me in Seattle but we're a sacrilegious bunch who hold nothing sacred - not even Corvettes

I've had some really nice stock Vettes and this one is by far my favorite and the most enjoyable. Yeah, you might break something or wear something out - but that is a lot more fun than watching the dust collect on your car at a show!

This old footage from 2007 on a qualifying runs around the local 4.2 mile track. Nothing like full fire suite on a 90 degree day at the track and 120 in the car!

You can't do this with stock brakes. I Have big superlight Willwoods with 13.25 GT1 rotors

156 mph on the speed gun front straight

4.11 rear end 5 speed tko 600 295X17 front slicks 345X18 rear slicks 700# semi coil overs rear 500+ pound rear steel mid 600 hp 427 small block with 7500 rpm solid roller cam

Second video my slicks are up to heat and I'm using up the rumble strips which is that buzzing sound in the corners
http://s124.photobucket.com/user/gku..._x264.mp4.html

Third video I'm having fun flat tracking the car because I has the fastest lap already. that is why the slicks were squealing

My advice is that as power goes up and tire quallity then stock brakes will fail you no matter what the pad type and even going to 600 degree fluid.

The best you can do with stock brakes is something like Hawk pads or some kind of carbon metallic with some kind of brake fluid like 580 degree Willwood

A lot of the guys here are excellent drivers with well-built cars. Many may disagree, but if your car is in good shape, Brakes work, suspension is in good shape, take the car to a Time Trial or Driving school. Start off in a novice class. They will give you an instructor. He will show you the track, and hits on how to drive. He should then swap with you and let you drive, making subtle corrections. Then you are usually free to practice. Do NOT get in over your head. Do NOT go 150 down a main straightaway. Enjoy the day. Then think what my car did well and what do I wish it did better. Then modify one thing at a time.

Many places get started. Up in Northeast there is EMRA Racing, NASA also runs a class act. There are a few more. Some guys make it look very easy. You may like it. I have seen people shake their heads and leave saying “This isn’t for me.”

Just get out there, have fun. Take it from there. Be smooth. If you are, you should not be beating the heck out of your car and it will do just fine.
